Welcome to the Mississippi Chapter of The Wildlife Society

ATTENTION CWBs and AWBs

           Chartered in 1973, the Mississippi Chapter of The Wildlife Society is comprised of wildlife professionals and students. Our goal is that of The Wildlife Society founded in 1937 of promoting excellence in wildlife stewardship through science and education.

             Mississippi is an excellent place for wildlife with habitats ranging from bottomland hardwood to upland pine, pitcher plant bogs to coastal marshes. Conservation and management of these habitats in addition to private land holdings involve multiple groups such as our state agency (Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks) and federal agencies including the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, USDA APHIS Wildlife Services, and Natural Resources Conservation Service. Their efforts have helped build the foundation for wonderful hunting and fishing opportunities throughout the state. Despite the acreage in our Wildlife Management Areas, National Wildlife Refuges, and public places, nearly 80% of Mississippi is privately owned.

     Hunters, private corporations, land owners, and wildlife enthusiasts are among the many who support wildlife conservation efforts across the state. Our state and federal agencies, universities, and wildlife biologists are all determined to keep Mississippi beautiful and our wildlife bountiful.

     Our chapter is dedicated to continuing wildlife stewardship through science and education with a collaborative effort among members and nonmembers.
