The Michigan Chapter of The Wildlife Society was founded in 1982. Chapter members include administrators of government wildlife programs, research scientists, managers, technicians, private consultants, educators, enforcement personnel, information specialists and students.
The Chapter works
to promote sound stewardship of wildlife and other environmental resources
to increase appreciation of wildlife values
to promote the highest standards in wildlife professional activities.
Chapter Functions
participation in advisory groups which review and comment on current wildlife policies, budgets, legislation and projects.
participation in the Midwest Fish and Wildlife conference and other resource- oriented meetings
maintenance of a membership directory
publication of a Chapter newsletter
Activities
The Michigan Chapter of TWS sponsors a Spring conference each year. The conferences provide a forum for invited speakers and member presentations. Topics focus on - but are not limited to- issues of particular importance to Michigan such as the impact of industrial and agricultural activities on wildlife, the simultaneous management for wildlife and forest products, and the ecology of important wildlife species in Michigan.
