TWS works with the following coalitions to enhance wildlife policies:
American Wildlife Conservation Partners (AWCP) The American Wildlife Conservation Partners are nearly 40 sportsmen and conservation groups that came together in 2000 to identify how best to work collectively to help chart the course for the future of wildlife conservation in the United States.
AWCP is designed to facilitate communication within the wildlife conservation community and between that community and the elected and appointed officials and policy makers at the federal level. In 2002, AWCP prepared a set of recommendations for the future of conservation entitled “Wildlife in the 21st Century,” with recommendations to ensure the continued success of wildlife and wildlife management in America. The second volume was released in 2005, and updated the recommendations made in the first volume.
Bird Conservation Alliance The Bird Conservation Alliance is a network of organizations with a shared interest in the conservation of wild birds. Through the Alliance, millions of birdwatchers and concerned citizens are united with conservation professionals, scientists, and educators to benefit bird conservation efforts.
Some goals of the Alliance include increasing the effectiveness of bird conservation, helping to conserve the diversity and abundance of bird populations through habitat protection and management, reducing bird mortality due to human factors, and promoting birds as an important resource for the future.
Cooperative Alliance for Refuge Enhancement (CARE) CARE was created in 1995 as a loose coalition of diverse organizations concerned about the ability of our National Wildlife Refuges (NWRs) to fulfill their missions.
Correcting the inadequate funding for the operations and maintenance of NWRs is the coalition’s biggest and most basic concern.CARE recognizes that critical biological and management actions are not possible at current funding and staffing levels, and that management capability must be improved.
National Cooperators Coalition (NCC) The NCC is a group of non-federal Cooperative Research Unit Cooperators and other non-federal entities that support the research, education, and technical assistance requirements of the Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit (CRU) program. The partnership works together to provide strategic guidance for operation and development of the CRUs and assistance to the program in meeting its financial needs.
Teaming with Wildlife Teaming with Wildlife is a coalition of more than 5,000 organizations, businesses, and agencies that support the goal of restoring and conserving United States wildlife.
Since its founding in the early 1990’s, the group has worked to establish funding for wildlife conservation programs. The Steering Committee of Teaming with Wildlife is composed of 13 conservation organizations and provides national leadership for the Teaming with Wildlife initiative, setting national strategy and supporting the activities of state coalitions.
Theodore Roosevelt Conservation Partnership (TRCP) TRCP is a coalition of leading hunting, fishing, and conservation organizations, labor unions, and individual grassroots partners working together to preserve the traditions of hunting and fishing in the United States.
TRCP accomplishes its mission in the spirit of Theodore Roosevelt by expanding access to places to hunt and fish, conserving fish and wildlife and the habitats necessary to sustain them, and increasing funding for conservation and management.
USGS Coalition The USGS Coalition is an alliance of 70 organizations united by a commitment to the continued vitality of the unique combination of biological, geological, hydrological, and mapping programs of the U.S. Geological Survey. The Coalition supports increased federal investment in USGS programs that underpin responsible natural resource stewardship, improve resilience to natural and human-induced hazards, and contribute to the long-term health, security, and prosperity of the nation.
