Who Are We?
The Working Group for the Steady State Economy (WGSSE) educates fellow TWS members, other natural resources professionals, students, the public, and policy makers on the fundamental conflict between economic growth and wildlife conservation.
We use a variety of forums for educational and scientific discussions including academic symposia, public meetings, and letters to newspaper editors.
The working group provides TWS members the opportunity to conserve wildlife by ensuring that the wildlife profession addresses the conflict between economic growth and wildlife conservation.
Our first step was working within TWS to adopt a position statement on economic growth.
We support scientific inquiries and discussions into social, political, and ecological methods for moving towards a steady state economy.
We also support policy decisions that encourage a steady state economy as an alternative to perpetual continuous economic growth.
