Background: Joe grew up in Western Maryland and his interest in the outdoors led him to West Virginia University where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Wildlife and Fisheries Resources in 2003. After graduating from WVU, he quickly began his graduate work at the University of Delaware where he earned a Master of Science degree in Wildlife Ecology in 2005. His keen interest in deer management and ecology led him to UD to study the effects of white-tailed deer browsing on soybeans. After a brief stint as a Wildlife Specialist with the USDA APHIS Wildlife Services, Joe accepted a position with the Delaware Division of Fish & Wildlife as the state’s Game Mammal Biologist. Joe’s day-to-day duties include managing the state’s deer and furbearer populations, setting hunting and trapping seasons, and administering the state’s two crop damage assistant programs for farmers experiencing deer depredation. When not at work and when he’s allowed by his wife Alison, the chapter secretary, he can often be found pursuing deer, ducks, turkeys or any other critter that’s in season. Prior to becoming President of the MD/DE Chapter of the TWS, Joe was a general member for 3 years.
